Three point Five

Ashton,
Kiddo- you are 3 1/2 today.... 3 1/2!

If someone were to ask me to give them one word to describe you, I would say you are emotional. When you are happy, things roll pretty smooth. When you are angry/ sad, then life comes to a screeching halt.

This series of pictures best describes you. This was about a 3 minute cycle.
Mad about something.

Sulking

The recovery

And it is over

Off he goes again to find something else to get into.

Part of me thinks this moodiness is your age, yet the smarter part of me knows this is the wonderful way God made you. And though it drives me crazy sometimes, I know He is going to such great things through you and your emotionally charged self.

People are so drawn to you. You have a smile that can make my heart skip a beat. And your laugh- my goodness, it screams of mischief. On the flip side, your crying can go on for quite some time and sounds like finger nails on a chalkboard. We have already had a few battles of the will that have resulted in lessons for both of us.

As emotional as you are with your actions, you are not emotional in your words. Your "I Love You"s don't occur all that often but when they do, I know you mean them and they mean sooo much to me. Same thing with your hugs and kisses. You definitely don't just freely hand them out, but when you give me one, it takes my breath away.

You love your brothers but crave some one on one time. You are by far the best helper. If I could keep you busy all day doing little fun (or not so fun) little chores it would channel your busy streak. You really do need to be busy. You love going to MMO once a week and want to go more often.

Ashton, in reality, you are a lot like me- that is why at the young ol' age of 3 that we can butt heads so hard. I love you so much. My prayer is that I can show you Jesus and that you will follow him with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.

Happy Half Birthday Smashy!

A Real Life "Wild Kratts" Lesson

In case you dont know... Hunter is in love with the TV show on PBS called "Wild Kratts." Here is a link for what Wild Kratts is about if you are curious. In a nutshell, two brothers highlight a certain type of wild animal and through their creature power suits can spend time with that animal. It is a super cute show. I believe it just started in the beginning of this year so it is fairly new. I hope it catches on so we can buy some of the books and such.

Anyway, after lunch, we were sitting in the backyard besides what we have coined as Molly's bush (which Molly is laying under at the time)
Molly's ginormous boxwood.
Molly's "bed" under the bush.

I hear quite a commotion of birds and see Molly come flying out from under the bush chasing a bird that I think she had already wounded. I assume these birds had made or were making a nest in her bush (big mistake). I yell for her to stop which she semi-does until I get over to her. The bird hops away but I know that she has probably fatally wounded his wing.
He would not move from this spot even after I put Molly inside for a few minutes.

Hunter is quite simply horrified and immediately his compassion wells up. He has to go inside as he cant stand it.

I try to persuade the bird into the woods. He will not go so I let Molly back out as I definitely dont want it to suffer for longer than necessary. She plays with him for a bit which led to his demise.

After Molly's playdate. He died about a minute after this.

During this ordeal, the other birds are going haywire. They are soooo upset with my dog.
Ashton was not really fazed by this. He is pointing out the other birds to Hunter.

The only good part of this story is that, I believe, these were the types of birds that will dive bomb on you when you get in their space. You can see the backside of one of the protesters.

Hunter did come back out and after a small talk was no longer upset with Molly and was happy the bird was not suffering anymore.

It was quite the lesson for him even though it was sad.

Two side notes-
#1- Mom and dad, my dog is still pretty close to perfect and this has to be your dog's fault somehow.

#2- I did not run in to get my camera but just happened to be recording Hunter singing (ironically enough) the Wild Kratts theme song. Dont want any to think I am too morbid in documenting the death of Tweetie.

And because I dont want to end this on a sad note. Here is a picture of what it looks like when my husband puts a diaper on our child.

Easter Dinner 1

*** Don't miss the other post that I posted this evening. Eggs, Baseball, and Baskets and Holly Spring Egg Hunt.

As I type the title, "Easter Dinner #1", I realize that we are soo blessed. We have two families that we can split our time between. Two families that love us and will help us. Two families that we can celebrate the Resurrection of our Lord.

Today, we went to my parent's house for the day.My grandparents were able to come down which made the day even more special.

There was a lot of laughter, a lot of eating, and a lot of pictures. If your computer loads pictures slowly, this may not be the post for you! ;)

The boys got to dye eggs again which included dropping them in water and then forgetting about them.... by the time we remembered, the eggs were some pretty awesome colors.

The hunt.
While waiting on the eggs, we did the Resurrection eggs which was totally age appropriate and they really liked it. I put these together last night for my 4 year old Sunday School class... basically it is the Easter story being told through items in 12 plastic eggs.

The boys then got their Easter basket from mom which included candy, a movie, a book (Shep), a puzzle (Hunter), a new workbook (Ashton), and three small Nerf guns... turns out everyone loves a good Nerf gun.
Mom/ Queenie coming out with the basket. What on earth is going on with your pants?!?!

The hammock. This is some funny stuff. First, Ashton flips out of the hammock.
Then, mom suggests GranpaGordie gets in the hammock. We all assure her that is a bad idea. My father then goes over to get in and....

hahahahaha, yep, he flipped right out of the sucker. Oh, how I wish I had my camera up to my eye when he did this.

Just shake it off dad... no seriously- just shake off all the dirt/ leaves on your back.

Singing- You can be assured that anywhere my GrandpaGordie is , there will be singing. Just so happens, Ashton loves to sing.

Queenie and Ashton singing.

Just some good pictures from the rest of the day.

The group shot. I am amazed at how good this turned out for being a timer picture!
And just because... this is so pretty... and believe it or not, my mother took it. Well done mom and thank you for a wonderful day!

Holly Springs Egg Hunt

Though Friday evening was cool and damp, we went to Chad's family's home church for their Egg hunt.... apparently rain is no different than taking a bath (according to Chad's 21 year old cousin, Johnny.)

They had an inflatable which I guess is cooler than actually hunting eggs. The boys had a great time and got to hang out with their cousin, Charlee for the evening. I will have more pictures from Chad's family get together that is on Easter Sunday.

Here are the pics.
