Ash and Shep- The Stats

First, let me say how thankful I am that my middles had another year of no health issues.

Second, let me say that I hate taking these two to the doctor together.  It is one of those humbling experiences.  They are sooo goofy, laughing over every little thing the doctor asks them to do.

Nurse- "Please undress to just your underwear. Would you like a gown to cover up with?"
Kid- "hahaha, ok."
Other kid- "No, I will just stay in underwear."

Doctor- "Any diarrhera or constipation?"
kid- "hahaha, no."
other kid- "what's constipation?"

Doctor grabs a glove and does the "cough" check.
Kid chuckles
Other kid full out laughs while it is happening to his other brother.
Both kids preface this experience with, "do we have to have a weiner check?"

Doctor "jump up and down ten times."
Kid - you would think he has zero athletic ability with the way he is jumping around the room
Other kid- making all kinds of weird faces while he jumps

I am so thankful they get us in and out quickly because by the end, I am about to die.  These boys are just too much.
The middles!  Love this duo. Yes, I cropped Hunter, Bennett and even (gasp) Moses out of the picture.

Ashton
Weight- 56 lb (21%)
Height- 52.5" (46%)

Shepherd
Weight- 67 lb (94%)
Height- 52.75" (99%)
***He is officially taller than his older brother.  We knew the day would come, but didnt think it would be when he was 7.  I went back and checked on Hunter at 7 as Hunt has always been tall for his age.  This puts Shep's size into perspective.  Hunter weighed 57lbs and was 51.5" tall at 7 so a good bit smaller than Shepherd.

After the doctor's appt, we met up with Olivia and baby Isaac for lunch.  I love her being so close to do quick meet ups!  I got to love Isaac for a little bit but he is already quite a momma's boy and wasnt truly happy until he was back with him mom. Thanks for meeting with us Liv.

One One

11 years ago my epidural was cut off and I pushed for almost 2 1/2 hours...  All this was done to get to hold this scrawny little 7 lb 2 oz baby for the first time.  Of course I loved him from the moment that I found out I was pregnant, but, for me, it was awe at first sight.  I was in absolute awe of this little person.  By his one month check up, he was up to 10 lb. 13 oz and by six months was over 20 lbs.  I feel like I just blinked to the present.
This kid knows how to take a picture.
My Hunter is growing into such an amazing young man.  He is a thinker... sometimes overly so.  He is obedient to a fault (if there is such a thing.)  He completes his homework without any prompting from me or any complaints.  He fits the mold of the oldest child and is quite the caretaker to the younger three.  During football season, he helps me tremendously around the house and with his brothers. He is compassionate and hurts when others hurt.   He is funny.  I love that he now gets all of my sarcasm and will softly chuckle when I say stuff to his brothers that will go right over their heads.
He loves his Clemson Tigers
He loves Jesus, knows the Bible amazingly well, and loves going to church.  He still loves all super hero shows and movies.  As I mentioned before, he and I can have a 2 hour discussion on the latest Arrow or Flash season.  He remembers trivia (AKA trivial facts) and is in dismay that I do not share his love of history facts, science info or random knowledge.  He still loves for me to read to him.  He is not an avid individual reader, but will come running if I offer to read to him or if he hears me reading to the other boys.
Opening presents
Ashton made him laugh.  Still opening presents
His favorite present (the arrow was a Christmas gift) was the quiver and more arrows.  He is posing here as the "Green Arrow."  I told you we slightly in love with Arrow and Oliver Queen. Well, he is in love with Arrow.  I am in love with Oliver Queen... hahaha

It's funny how God knew exactly what I needed when he loaned you to me.  Hunter, you are such an amazing kid.  You are a bit weird and you totally own it.  I pray that your mold is always fashioned after Jesus.  Surround yourself with like-minded but dont be afraid to get into this messy world and love on people.  As we are studying the armor of God, prepare for battle daily.  This armor is the same divine armor that Yahweh used in Isaiah.  We have access to Jesus' armor!  I take great comfort that you are equipped to handle the "flaming arrows of the evil own" because you are covered by Him.
Blowing out his birthday brownies.  He requested Zaxbys for dinner and I caved.
I love you so much!  You have a lot of exciting things happening in the next year and I know you are ready.

Happy Birthday,
Love,
Mom

Height- 5'2" (not in inches anymore- that sounds so tall.)
Weight- 98 lbs
Shoe- 8.5 or 9
Shirt- Youth XL or 14
Pants- 14
Gosh, you are growing up so fast!
-----------------------------------------------------------
And because I dont have enough to make it its own blog.  We were able to head up to Asheville to celebrate my niece, Eva's, first birthday.  She is such a beautiful, precious little girl.
Eva Claire is 1!!!!

She knew just what to do with the cake... double fisting it.

So, happy happy birthday to Hunter (and Eva).  While I am at it, Happy Birthday to Nolan too.  From December 7 to December 14, our family has a bunch to celebrate (actually, Happy Birthday to my cousin and maid of honor in my wedding Stephanie who hit the big 33 yesterday!)
-------------------------------------------------------
To sum it up- Hunter, "Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might.  Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil."  Eph. 6:10-11

Thanksgiving Break

This Thanksgiving was the first time my entire family was together with the finished basement at mom and dads house... and it was so nice!  Plenty of places for people to sleep and lots of room to spread out!

We had a great time hanging out and enjoying a peaceful, yummy Thanksgiving day.  We spent two nights with my family.  The boys and Chad then headed up to his parents house on Friday while mom and I headed out to do some shopping.

Of course Thanksgiving time = family pic time...

Sweet friends/ cousins.

Mom and I dont get to escape nearly enough so it was fun to just hang for a bit... both GrandmaDean and Anna quickly and politely turned down the invite to join us for Black Friday shopping. I went ahead and stayed with my parents one more night since Chad, his dad, and Ashton went to a high school football game and Grandma took Charlee, Hunter, Shepherd, and Bennett to the movies.
Cousin pic with Sandee's girls.
Saturday we hung out and watched some good football games.  The boys and Chad headed home Sunday morning and I got to go visit with one of my very best friends, Olivia.  Liv just had her 4th baby a couple days before Thanksgiving.  Baby Isaac is just perfect and such a perfect bookend to their family.
Welcome to the world sweet boy!
It was a great holiday.  We all crashed when we got home, but I wouldnt change it!!!

My Little Cub

Seven years old!  My surprise!  My, "how on earth can I be pregnant again?!?!" baby.  Shepherd, you may have surprised me but our Father planned you from the very beginning of time... from when I found out I was pregnant and scratched my head in wonder; to now, when I still scratch my head in wonder from the things you do and say, I am so thankful that you are mine.  But more importantly, I am glad you are His.
Happy 7th Birthday!

This past year you have matured so much yet somehow stayed the same.  God opened your eyes and you saw your need for a Savior- my biggest prayer for you... answered.

Shep's teacher, at the beginning of the school year, asked parents to send in some information about our kids.  Below is what I sent her.  It is a great summary of Shepherd.
LOVE this kid!!!
My Shep is like hugging a bear cub. He always wipes my kisses off, however he will often hop on my lap to snuggle.  He is goofy and slightly quirky.  He plays soccer, basketball, and tried baseball.  And though he likes sports, they are not his passion at this point in his life. I think he does them because his brothers do.
Still rockin the 3-D glasses
He would prefer to work with his hands.  He loves to build with Legos and can easily build form the kit directions or come up with his own "masterpieces."  He also loves to color, draw, and paint.  He enjoys computer games and playing video games.  I think he is pretty smart. His mind works differently in the way he sees things.

He loves all things potty humor and I am constantly telling him to tone it down.  The slap stick comedy that I find ridiculous brings Shepherd great joy.  We did however find common humor this summer in reading the Stick Dog books.  He is starting to understand sarcasm, which is a life survival skill in our house.  Though he is not at the point to go and pick up a chapter book on his own and start reading, when I suggest that he go and read, he will never complain about it.  I am hopeful that at least one of my boys will be an avid reader like their mom.  :)
Captain America/ Superman
In the birth order, he is 3rd of 4 boys with 7 years between the oldest and youngest.  I think that would probably be the hardest position to fall as you are definitely in the shadow of the older two but dont get the benefits of being the baby.  However, he handles it beautifully.  He is known as the silly one of my four.  He has great one liners and can normally get me laughing when I want to pull my hair out.
Will always smile for the camera when I let him be silly for the last shot
At home, he can be a whiner but  people tell me that when he is out of the house, he is tough as nails... go figure.  My biggest concern is that Shepherd jumps before he thinks.  He is impulsive and if it will get a laugh, then consider it done.  I constantly ask him, "is that a good idea" or "think Shep, think."
Hugging on Mosie
He is a daydreamer and often is in la-la land.  He finds objects in the clouds and forms Batman signs into doughnuts.  He eats the dry cereal out of Lucky Charms leaving the marshmallows (his favorite) for last. Speaking of eating, he loves food (gets it honestly) and eats a ton.
Swimming with Riggs

He loves animals, especially all the dogs in our family.
Isla and Sheppy

He warms up to people like I do, pretty slowly so dont be offended if you feel nonexistent.  But once you are in his circle and experience a true Shepherd hug, you will never be the same.

And now for the party...

Shepherd had the big party this year. He chose a Minecraft theme and we had a really good time with his best friends and some family.

I used trusty ol' Pinterest for some ideas especially since I really didnt know that much about Minecraft.

The Play- We did Pin the Tail on the Pig.  And then each kid got to take a turn to Poke a Creeper to get their party favor.  Most of the time was spent playing outside... from ziplining, to soccer, to trampolining, to fusball, and building legos; the kids all seemed to have a blast.

Bennett's turn at Poke a Creeper
Pin the Tail game... it looked much better the day of the party .  This pic was taken 4 days after (plus we had rain).  We also did the box creeper head that is in the pinterest link.
Ella Grey ziplining.  Love this girl. She was the true host of the party.  She would take food out to the boys in the shed.
Moses joined in the trampoline fun.
Will on the Power Wheels.
Lots of fusball competition... cousin comp.
Mason, Owen and Ashton battling it out
Shep and his best friend Mason.
Soccer time.
Opening presents-  Thank you to everyone.  Shepherd has seriously played with every gift extensively.

Shepherd, Caelum, and Bennett disappeared after presents to start building legos.
Miss Esme' getting love from Queenie
This is what Eva thought about the party.
I hate I didnt get a picture of all the kids that were at the party... didnt even think about a cousin picture until they were on their way out the door.  Good lookin kids!
Shepherd and Queenie.  Mantis had already left (again, didnt think ahead).  Thanks to my dad for coming up Friday and helping me get everything ready.  I also neglected to get a picture of GrandmaDean.  :/

The Food- I made the cake and used this recipe.  I used a recipe that would be pretty durable and not crumbly since I had to shape it a bit.
The spread.

Even after I cut, no crumbs!!! This recipe was a success!

I thought this cake was pretty cute... Pinterest link.  Shep and I built the lego stuff instead of buying a kit.  I think we nailed it!
My brother and his family came early so we ate some BBQ before the party started.

Birthday
As luck would have it, the child who could take or leave football, has to go to a football game on his birthday.  Tonight, Chad's team is the first round of the playoffs.  Though Shep would rather stay home and play with his loot, he does get to run out (with Ash and Hunt) with the football team.

After school, Shepherd opened the rest of his presents (I let him open one yesterday).  We sang Happy Birthday to him.  He requested Icebox Lemon Pie (mine and Shep's absolute favorite!!!) (we actually cut into it yesterday- it was half gone by this morning.) #noselfcontrol .  Thankfully the other kids dont like it so I made brownies for them.
Shep and his presents from us.  Sorry for the poor quality- no computer just stopped reading my camera/ usb cord (take have time to piddle with it.)

He picked Cracker Barrel to eat dinner on the way to the game.

Happy Birthday my pop-a-tarda.  I pray wisdom over you almost nightly.  I also pray that you will have His peace with whatever you come across.  It is one thing to be smart- it is another to wise.

James 3:17- "But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first pure, then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. Peacemakers who sow in peace, reap a harvest of righteousness."
Probably the kid that looks the most like me.... maybe.
